Potato Trap

south africa millipedes zimbabwe india IMG_1937

We are doing a Potato Trap Project so we can discover the different types of invertebrae around the world

Things you will need: spoon, potato and a knife

You need to cut a potato in half IMG_1825
Then get your spoon and scoop the insides of the potato so it is hollow but there still has to be some potato left so the insects will have something left to eat.

  • Then put the halves together so you have 1 hole.
  • Then make 2 holes so the bugs can get in and out.

Then plant the potato in a damp place with the holes pointing up and make sure only the holes are visible. Leave the potato in the ground for 2 weeks and after the 2 weeks take the potato out and see what bugs are in there, and then send us a picture of what animals are in there. IMG_1935
