Friends of San Sior

Friends of San Sior

Thank you to those parents that made the first meeting of the Friends of the school or who sent their apologies. A very valuable discussion was had and a summary of the topics covered can be found below. If you feel able to organise any of these events we would love to hear from you.

The first event is a Cheese, wine and Quiz Night planned for 8th March at 7.30pm. Any volunteers to organise this event please?

We will make every effort to keep to the dates below but will confirm by letter / e-mail

Items in purple will be organised by pupils in the School Council and Eco Council. The School Council meets on the first Friday of every month and additional events will be added

Our web site appears to have issues with apostrophes so apologies for that…

HOLIDAYS

Whole school events that are already in diary are included above.

Individual class visits / events and sports fixtures are NOT noted.

If you have you an idea to raise funds or a way to bring the school community together please let us know. It does not necessarily have to raise funds.

*Learning Logs are projects given to the children. They research a particular topic at home using any means available to them.They usually choose how to present the information eg powerpoint, booklet, poster, scrap book etc In the case of the History Learning Log they would choose a character from the past and would learn as much as they can about the character and then come to school on the date set, dressed as their character.

Here are the ideas that were raised during the meeting :

  • Beetle Drive;
  • Quiz Night;
  • Bingo;
  • Treasure Hunt;
  • Auction of Promises (this is to be done every other year so next one 2014);
  • 100 Club (this is dying with only 22 members – unless it can be revived the last draw will take place in February);
  • walks after school;
  • nightjar hunting / moth tapping at midnight (many years have passed since we went to Betws y Coed with torches to listen for the elusive nightjar!);
  • improve the Sports Day by having a BBQ like we used to, so parents can make a day of it,
  • improve Summer Fair and consider moving it to a Saturday, breathe some new life to what should be a spectacular affair
  • have a picnic on the school field, soccer match between parents and pupils,
  • picnic and sand castle competition on the beach,
  • Netball team for the mums,
  • BBQ
  • Tombola at the Victorian Extravaganza,
  • Cheese and wine with a quiz,
  • cycle to school week,
  • San Sior ‘s Got Talent (we did this last year and it was brilliant and we regret not inviting parents),
  • Cookery Book made by school’s Cookery Club
  • Masterchef competition (which is brilliant) could be an opportunity for the children to cook for the parents?
  • Make more parents aware of the school web shop where the school benefit from your online purchases at Amazon,

Argos and other online stores etc.

  • School Uniform available soon from M&S with 5% of all sales to school (web site details to follow)
  • Car boot,
  • wine tasting,
  • 50:50 raffle

During meetings no pressure will be placed on anyone to run any of the events. However if you feel able to help with any of the above please do let us know. We are aiming to have two events per term.

We have a target: Funds raised will go towards the purchase of further ipads for the school. Our target is to purchase two class sets.

Thank you
