Year three – Dosbarth Haulfre chicken week
Nursery – Dosbarth Bodnant enviroment week
On Monday Mrs Fiona Roberts was interviewed by Dosbarth Haulfre about our school chickens. They had done lots of research and had some very interesting questions including: Do chickens dream? and Are chickens able to see in the dark?
Monday after school the juniors had a film night to raise school funds. Ieuan, Lucas and Oscar helped to serve the hotdogs, crisps and drinks but made sure everything was recycled in the correct bins at the end.
Dosbarth Seiriol worked very hard to cut back all the sensory herbs by their classroom. Eleri had a big surprise when she found a dead slow worm they took it to show Mr Jones. After filling the wheelbarrow full of all the waste, they took it to be composted. Fantastic team work by Year three.
Nursery – Dosbarth Bodnant had a busy morning on the school field collecting rubbish. They had gloves on to protect their hands and took all the rubbish they found to our recycling bins at the back of the hall. They also collected apples from the orchard to make yummy apple crumble the following day.
Mr Jones spotted a group of children sitting in the Gardd Cudd or secret garden reading in the oak cabin.
Ysgol San Sior have won the Llandudno in Bloom competition. Lucas our Headboy, Freya Headgirl and Erin our Eco Ambassodor went to Llandudno Town Hall on Tuesday to take part in the presentation. They proudly collected two trophies, certificates and a garden voucher from the mayor. The whole school celebrated in service what a fantastic team effort by staff and pupils.
Wednesday lunchtime Flynn, Joe, Leroy and Cian put old clothes on so they could clean the old bin compound. The school now recycles everything and got rid of two 1100 litre bins that space was not needed so we turned it into a roosting area for the chickens. This was a big job and after clearing 8 wheelbarrows of recycling, the boys could put new bedding down. North Wales Joinery kindly donate all their wood shavings in return for our free range eggs. We have very happy chickens rolling in the new bedding.
Eco clwb this week was the Quails, they finished picking the rest of the apples when they went pond dipping. The water was very low, we have had a dry autumn this year so our pond needed to be topped up.
Cookery clwb this week made fruit salad with Miss Lewis and Mrs Bryne. All the peelings was recycled in the compost bin.
Dosbarth Bodnant are reading the ‘Mixed up chameleon’ by Eric Carle so came to the foyer to meet Mash our 7 year old Yemen and our Panther Chameleon they all enjoyed touching them and watching how their eyes move at 360 degrees.
The female Yemen is now only six days away from laying her eggs Erin, Nell and Carys have prepared a pot full of sphagnum moss which needs to be moist the girls will be watching now for any changes.
Belle, Georgia and Oliver finished planting our winter veg including cabbages and leeks.
Four ayam cemani chicks hatched this week in Mr Jones office but sadly a borweak and ayam from the coups outside died. Lowri and Georgia will look after the chicks each day. One of our Silver Spangled Appenzeller Spitzhauben was bullied by the chickens in her coup she has been moved to a different area and seems much happier now.
The school council met for the first time this term, they are going to ask Mr jones if the playground can be re painted and footsteps painted outside the school again but need to raise money to help with the cost. A cake day was suggested also a Minecraft clwb. Kian is going to see how much electric a computer uses, to work out costing.
This week 320 eggs were recorded on the tally chart.photo2_t
