We placed two tiny cameras in two of the bird boxes on the school grounds. The cameras were connected to two televisions in the school foyer and we were able to work here and watch the blue tits sitting on their eggs or feeding the noisy chicks. Next year we will try and keep ma more detailed online diary of the breeding birds. All seven chicks fledged and we watched them leave the nest box during our literacy lesson....

The male (George) has now started visiting and feeding either the female or, as seen, here feeding the chicks himself. The male has a white forehead which you can't see in this photo.

Herring Gulls

We placed a web cam on the herring gulls nesting above the secretary's office. We didn't see the chick hatch but it was able to walk very soon after hatching and kept wandering past the camera , returning most afternoons to sit in the nest. The parents kept dive-bombing visitors to the school!
